چکیده

The evaluation and measurement of human body dimensions and diameters are achieved by physical anthropometry (Chamella, 1997; Williams et al., 1995). The dimensions of newborns bodies can be the basis for all changes in anthropometric indices. Therefore, these dimensions are important in this field, because this is one of the health evaluation indices of newborns (Golalipour et al., 2000; Afak and Turgut, 1998). The common method for evaluating of craniofacial forms includes cephalometry, photogrametry, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) scanning and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (McIntyre et al., 2003). Cephalometry is one of the important parts of anthropometry, in which the dimensions of the head and face are measured (Grau et al., 2001; El-Feghi et al., 2004). The cephalometric results are used in pediatric, forensic medicine, plastic surgery, oral surgery, orthodentistry and diagnostic comprehension between patient and normal populations (Williams et al., 1995; Gale et al., 2003). The dimensions of the human body are affected by geographical, racial, ethnic, gender and age factors (Golalipour et al., 2003; Eur J Anat, 10 (2): 49-52 (2006)

Effect of Ethnicity on the Females’ Brain Weight in Northern Iran

Introduction: Brain weight and cranial capacity are important parameters in the study of racial/ ethnic differences. This study was done to determine the effect of ethnicity on the female’s brain weight in Northern Iran. Methods: Brain weight was estimated using linear (Lee–Pearson’s) formula in 410 normal 17–20 year old (207 native Fars and 203 Turkman) females in northern Iran. Dimension...

Is a negative cranial CT-scan adequate to support a diagnosis of pseudotumor cerebri

In a patient with features indicating the presence of pseudotumor cerebri, a negative cranial CT-scan is not adequate to rule out less benign pathology and an MRI of brain should be performed. In this study, a 10-year old boy with daily headaches for one month and diplopia for one week was found to have a partial abducens palsy and bilateral papilledema; otherwise, his examination was normal. A...

Estimation of Cranial Capacity in 17-26 Years Old University Students

It is natural that there is close relationship between cranial capacity, and the size of brain. Several studies have estimated the cranial capacity which indirectly reflects the brain volume. This study was carried out on 366 (226 male and 140 female) healthy university students aged between 17-26 years old at Mugla University, Mugla, Turkey. By using linear dimensions of the head the mean cran...
